Fertilizing Your Garden
With liquid, water soluble, and slow-release fertilizers from the Country Basket Garden Centre, you can keep your Niagara garden looking lush all season long, whatever your needs.
A little fertilizer goes a long way in successful gardening.
We carry 3 types of fertilizer at the Country Basket Garden Centre:
- Liquid fertilizer - FREE at the Country Basket!
- Water soluble fertilizer - comes in a powder form which you mix with water in your watering can
- Slow-release fertilizer - slowly breaks down over the season releasing nutrients to your plants.
Slow-release fertilizer works on the principle of osmosis. The granules absorb moisture from the soil, causing them to swell into plump capsules of liquefied plant food.
The nutrients are then slowly released through the granule's coating to the plant's root zone through osmosis. They do not wash away because they are encapsulated to provide a constant supply of nutrients to your plants.
We highly recommend using slow-release fertilizer in your hanging baskets and containers because your plants will receive a steady stream of nutrients throughout the summer.
Also, if you are a "cottage-goer" and rely on friends and neighbours to water your plants, fertilizing is one less thing for them to do for you. Please talk to a staff member for more advice on fertilizing.
