Who's looking after your Garden?

Your plants are alive! They need regular attention and by following a few steps they will continue to thrive while you enjoy a bit of time away;

• weed your gardens - the less you are asking your plant-sitter to do the better
• fertilize - with slow release fertilizer or water soluble fertilizer  
• water deeply
• mulch to help the ground retain moisture and to keep the weeds down

If you'll only be away a couple of nights the 4 steps above should be sufficient. If your vacation plans are going to take you away for a longer period then consider having someone come in to water your gardens (that's all that will be needed if you've weeded, fertilized and mulched). Sure you could ask your teenagers to take care of your prized possessions (LOL, who am I kidding?!) but if you can find a friend or neighbour who has vacation plans later in the summer, you could offer to swap gardening duties. That's a win-win situation!
